Mid-Life Baby
October 11th, 2006
Sometimes, the mid-life woman, who is sensing that she is losing her mothering role will decide to have a baby. This may sound very exciting as a dream, but there are a lot of other factors to consider, even as simple as energy level. Can she really stand going all night without sleep? One forty-year-old mother put it, “Baby care suits a once-a-week grandmotherly schedule better than every day and every hour.”
Many a young woman has enjoyed the good, warm feelings when her children called her “Mommy.” there is something special about being first in a child’s vocabulary, but as her children grow older, and start calling her “Mom,” she may sense her role is slipping away. With the change of her name there is the unspoken question of how long will it be before she is called mother-in-law and grandmother?
So, by the time the average mid-life woman reaches her late thirties or early forties, she is already becoming painfully aware that her teenagers don’t want to be mothered. That is the reason for some woman to have a baby in mid-life.
One thought here for mid-life woman, your primary mothering is extended about another tweleve years.
